Switch on the TV or take a peek at the latest health books and you will notice that the term "organic food" is being widely promoted as the new way to have a healthy life. Due to the fact organic crop production is frequently more costly than the non-organic choice, the ones that are in the business of selling organic foods are earning huge profits. Considering this, is organic foodstuff genuinely better for us? Should we be spending more money on food that is purportedly better for us?
Before I proceed I must explain what is meant by organic. When something is organic it implies that it is free from chemicals being added to it. Ionizing radiation, artificial hormones and chemically enhanced fertilizers are illustrations of things that are not used to accelerate or boost the food's growth or quantity. In relation to organic meat, eggs and daily products, these have had no antibiotics or growth hormones (GH) added to increase the rate that they may be produced.
The procedure for growing commercial organic food is not an easy one as a total of 3 years must pass before their crops can be termed "organic" The basis for this waiting period is to let the soil to develop natural nutrients and minerals so that the new crop is completely free from chemicals when it is grown A lot of toil and time goes into organic food, therefore its understandable that its more expensive. But the question still demands to be asked; is this all essential? Is organic food really going to make a significant improvement to my health?
The good news is that you will discover many other good reasons to buy organic food. Firstly, organic food has a great deal more nutritional value then the non-organic alternative. Milk from cows that have been organically raised contained, on average, 50% more Vitamin E, 70% more Beta Carotene, 2 times as many antioxidants and more Omega-3 than milk created in the conventional way. Organic food contains no added compounds, such as fertilizers and insecticides, which can be detrimental to your health. Furthermore, you do not run the risk of ingesting cancer causing toxins which is a huge benefit to picking organic food. The next benefit is a matter of opinion, as many people say organic food tastes better than non organic, but again you cannot say this as a fact because its down to ones individual preferences.
Only using organic food will also have a positive effect on our environment. This is because organic food has not been force-fed any insecticides and pesticides when it is cultivated. Although this does take more effort and time, it has a positive effect on the environment with the absence of the chemicals that are usually used. This will all bring about a decreased level of pollution during food production and so will not have a negative effect on global warming. When animals are not raised with the intention of marketing organic foods, they are often mistreated by keeping them in tiny enclosures and force feeding them to encourage enhanced growth over a shorter amount of time unlike organic farmers tend to take good care of their animals, even allowing them to roam free.
And so organic foods are great for the environment, your health and even ensures that the animals on the farms are treated well and not mistreated. As with anything thats good you will find disadvantages, with organic food its the cost, so its up to you to determine whether or not you'll benefit from paying more for organic food.
